Just Breathe

With the world we live in today, life can be very stressful and overwhelming.  While there are many mental disorders out there, the two most common are anxiety and depression.  Many of us suffer from either anxiety or depression, while some of us suffer from both; and that can be a nightmare!  These two seem to go hand in hand.  In fact, some say that anxiety can lead to depression, while depression can actually cause anxiety.  It's like an emotional roller coaster ride!

Anxiety makes you over-think everything and care too much, while depression can make you feel like you don't care about anything at all.  Anxiety tells you have to do everything right now, but depression says you're too tired to do anything.  It's like a constant battle going on inside your head, and it can be exhausting.

Here are just a few signs of generalized anxiety disorder:

  • Easily fatigued
  • Excessive worry
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Restlessness
  • Trouble concentrating

And here are a few signs of severe depression:

  • Depressed mood
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Increase or decrease in appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Lack of energy
  • Lack of interest in normal activities
  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
  • Trouble concentrating

Other contributing factors for anxiety are worrying about the future.  Depression can stem from past failures or regrets.

The first thing you need to know is that there is help out there.  Things as simple as prayer, exercise, meditation, counseling, and therapy can be used to treat these disorders.  Some doctors will even prescribe you medicine, but if you're like me, you might like to try more natural treatments first. 

The last thing you need to know is that you are not alone!  Many of us do understand what you're going through, and we care.  "Just breathe...
